The update process of the Circle Parental Control Service on various NETGEAR routers allows remote attackers to achieve remote code execution as root via a MitM attack. An attacker can leverage this in conjunction with other vulnerabilities to execute code in the context of root. The issue results from the use of an inappropriate encryption algorithm. The specific flaw exists within the encryption of firmware update images. Authentication is not required to exploit this vulnerability.
